Since the onset of the socio-political crisis in Cameroon, thousands of families in the south-west region have faced displacement, food insecurity, and disrupted livelihoods.
In response, the World Food Programme (WFP), through AIRD’s Third-Party Monitoring (TPM) system, has worked to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches those who need it most.
Between March and August 2025, AIRD’s TPM teams covered over 150 sites across Fako, Meme, Manyu, Ndian, and Lebialem divisions, independently verifying food distributions, cash-based transfers, nutrition programs, and infrastructure projects. Through real-time monitoring, AIRD ensured that every intervention, from general food distributions to livelihood and nutrition support, was delivered transparently and adjusted based on direct community feedback.
In the agricultural sector, TPM oversight under Food Assistance for Assets (FFA) and Smallholder Agricultural Market Support (SAMS) programs enabled farmers to improve yields, manage poultry effectively, and market produce transparently. At Mabeta Njanga, farmers reported selling 458kg of maize for 51,400 FCFA (about 90 USD), while cassava generated 60,000 FCFA. (about 105USD), an income that families reinvested into their farms.
TPM also strengthened nutrition and school feeding initiatives, supporting over 5,000 pupils with nutritious meals and monitoring Super Cereal Plus (CSB++) distributions to 2,500 children under five. By combining monitoring, capacity building, and beneficiary feedback, AIRD’s TPM approach has enhanced program accountability, improved food security, and empowered communities to build resilience.
What beneficiaries say
Florence, mother of four and beneficiary of the project from Bokwaongo: My children ate well for the first time in weeks. Before this support, my children often went to bed hungry. Today, I can plan meals, send them to school, and manage our household with confidence.”
Njuafac Helen, a beneficiary from Fonjumetaw: With the money I received from the FFA resilience payment, my husband and I bought our first goat because, to us, it is the safest way to save money while it multiplies. Today, we are proud to have three goats. From the remains of our household entitlements, we were also able to pay our children’s rent in Dschang so that they can attend school without disturbance
Atefack Cecilia, beneficiary in the FFA Resilience Project in Fonjumetaw: “I have been participating in the Construction of the Warehouse. I attended and participated actively at the project site, but I had not received my entitlement until recently, when TPM followed up and ensured that I received my full portion. I am excited and grateful. I plan to use the funds to buy a small piglet, pay my child’s school fees, and cover my rent.
Miriam Mbole, who received cash assistance to start a small business, said: “This cash gave me back my dignity. I can earn, provide for my family, and help others. AIRD TPM ensured everything was fair and transparent.”
