In eastern Chad, humanitarian needs continue to rise amidst reduced international aid, and AIRD is proving that innovation and resilience can build stronger communities.

In Ibeida, one of the host communities for Sudanese refugees, AIRD’s field teams brought an abandoned water catchment source back to life, restoring hope and dignity to thousands. Through technical skill, a motor pump and water supply system were installed to extract clean water efficiently, ensuring families have safe, reliable access to drinking water.
AIRD also transformed an old UNHCR truck, once considered obsolete, into a fully functional water tanker. This clever adaptation now allows the daily transport and distribution of 55,000 litres of clean water to refugees and residents. The initiative not only meets urgent water needs but also significantly reduces operational costs and supports sustainability.

In addition to water interventions, AIRD has constructed 4,774 emergency shelters in collaboration with UNHCR, giving displaced families protection and dignity. To improve humanitarian working conditions, Refugee Housing Units (RHUs) were also established in key areas such as Birak and Marassabré.

AIRD’s approach goes beyond technical solutions. Over 80% of the field teams implementing the projects come from refugee and host communities, fostering inclusion, ownership, and peaceful coexistence. This participatory model not only empowers local people but also strengthens social cohesion and long-term resilience.

Despite logistical challenges, harsh terrain, and limited resources, AIRD continues to deliver impactful and sustainable humanitarian responses. From reviving a forgotten water source to turning an old vehicle into a vital lifeline, these efforts demonstrate AIRD’s commitment to innovation, humanity, and community-driven solutions.

In Chad and beyond, AIRD remains steadfast in its mission to restore hope, dignity, and stability, proving that with creativity and solidarity, every challenge can become an opportunity to serve better.
